about the agency
Which languages does Babylon Translations translate?
Babylon Translations works with 32 languages and regional variants, from Albanian and Arabic to Turkish and Ukrainian, including UK and US English, Canadian French, Latin American Spanish and three Portuguese variants. The full list is on the languages page.
What kinds of documents does the agency translate?
Technical documents, business correspondence, patents and contracts, as well as specialist texts in medicine, advertising and industry. Websites and software are translated as separate services.
What does ISO 17100 certification mean for a translation?
ISO 17100 sets requirements for translation services: qualified translators, defined project management and, for every translation, a revision by a second linguist who compares it with the source text. Babylon Translations is certified to DIN EN ISO 17100; details are on the quality page.
Does the agency offer machine translation post-editing?
Yes. Its quality management system is certified to ISO 18587:2017, the standard for full post-editing of machine translation output by qualified linguists. Whether post-editing suits a text is explained in the translation guide.
Are medical translations covered by a specific standard?
Yes. Babylon Translations is certified to ISO 13485:2016 for translation in the life sciences and medical devices. ISO 13485 is the quality management standard for the medical device sector; see medical translation.
How is a translation quote requested?
By email to office@babylon-translations.com with the files, the source and target languages, the intended use and the required date. Phone numbers and the address are on the contact page. The online form is not yet active.
Are documents handled confidentially?
Yes. Under the general terms, all source texts and related information are treated in full confidentiality, and subcontractors are bound by the same obligation. The privacy notice describes how personal data in documents is handled.
Which file formats can be sent for translation?
Editable files are the most efficient to translate, and scanned documents are also accepted. Delivery as DTP layouts or HTML files is a separate service, agreed and charged separately.
